Art is taught by class teachers in reception through to year 2. It is then taught in the art room for two periods a week for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

The art curriculum is taught on a termly basis. There are themes each term which are taught to give boys the opportunity to use different media and techniques. Artists from different cultures and periods are used as a starting point for activities which include:-

 

Observational drawing
Drawing from memory
Drawing from the imagination
Painting techniques in acrylic and watercolour
Printmaking using polystyrene or lino
Plaster and wire mesh sculptures
Clay work
Design
Carving

 

Boys will use computers and the internet in the art room to research their own artists and to make presentations on artists.
 
An after school art club is on Tuesdays for year 1.
 
When the boys are in Year 6,7 and 8 they have the opportunity to attend an advanced art club after school on Thursdays with the possibility of trying for and Art Scolarship to their next school.
 
Tower House has had a lot of success with art attaining four Art Scholars over the past six years with hopefully more to come in the future!
 
Design Technology is taught by class teachers in reception through to year 2. Classes are then split into two groups. One group is taught ICT and the other DT. This alternates from week to week.
 

The DT curriculum is taught over a period of a term and a half giving the boys the opportunity to work on longer projects (This is roughly 5 to 7 week blocks for each group). The boys get the opportunity to investigate design process which involve:-

1 Wood work
1 Plastics
1 Textiles
