The intranet code of practice.

The intranet code of practice has been drawn up to prevent misuse of the intranet at Tower House School. Emphasis should be placed on preventing misuse rather than the disciplinary procedures prior to misuse occurring.

Due to the community aspect of the intranet, this code of practice applies to everyone, from staff to students and parents.
Any disciplinary will be dealt with by the deputy head or senior management team, under the recommendation or with the aid of the school IT administrator.

What is deemed as inappropriate use of the intranet?

Before defining what is considered inappropriate use, it is necessary to mention that the intranet is designed to allow users to utilise the facilities of the intranet in a free manner that does not affect the outside world. With ever-growing websites on the internet that allow young children to chat to anyone across the world, the dangers are becoming far too great in children communicating with people that do not have similar intentions as them.

The secure environment of the intranet at Tower House means that boys can talk to each other without having to use blogs and chat facilities that are open to the whole world. In order for people to gain access to the intranet, they require a username and password. This of course, should be kept personal at all times.

Listed are some examples of what should not be seen on our school intranet:

> Adding comments to any discussion forum or notice board that deliberately or unintentionally degrade or vindicate another person.

> Uploading pictures or documents that deliberately or unintentionally degrade or vindicate another person.

> Uploading files that are known to cause network problems, spread viruses or install spyware.

> Upload pictures that would cause offence across the whole school; you must understand that boys from as young as 4 years old and their parents will see pictures that you upload. It is essential that pictures meet their requirements.

> Tampering with the design of the intranet in any way.

> Deliberately or unintentionally handing out your username and password to a 3rd party member of the school.

> Uploading or sharing information about downloading illegal or un-copyrighted material such as mp3s, mp4s, wma, wmv, or wav files etc.

> Using the email system to transmit any of the above points.
