Great Escape Filming

Drama at Tower House is exciting and different.

We offer half-hour drama lessons during the day. These comprise of paired sessions of personal, intensive lessons which encompass acting and performance skills, improvisation, speaking for an audience and posture/voice coaching. They work towards using these skills in school productions, performance poetry and speaking in class or assembly.

Major school productions are very inclusive at Tower House with over 75% of the senior school being involved in the last two school plays. Recent performances have included the first ever known stage version of ‘The Great Escape’ (2009) and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ (2008). Both of these performances included 30 minutes of filmed footage, involving the students filming on-location as far afield as The Peak District, Sussex and Hampshire.

Smaller scale Junior School Productions are performed every Summer and we also run a very popular Junior and Senior School Poetry Competition during late November.

Four drama clubs are also available (two in the senior school and two in the junior school) to help the children with their acting skills, where they will gain invaluable experience in performing in front of people in a relaxed, uninhibited environment.

Workshops are also offered during some school holidays. These range from simple, fun acting days to specialist workshops on such subjects as characterisation, acting to camera and speaking with confidence.

Over the past three years Tower House has had a 100% record with students trying for drama-based scholarships to their senior schools.
