At Tower House we work hard to support our boys and their families during the application process to Senior Schools. Our vast expertise and experience ensures that every boy leaves Tower House to join a school that will challenge, excite and inspire them! We are extremely proud of the Senior School destinations of our boys over the years.
Keeping on Track
Our boys are carefully monitored throughout Senior School to ensure they are progressing academically and we track each boy’s development meticulously each half term to ensure that the right support is in place. Collecting this amount of information on each pupil as well as gaining a thorough understanding of them as individuals, helps us form accurate judgements regarding the Senior Schools in which the boys will thrive.
Individual discussions with each family begin at the start of Year 5, with extra focus also being put in place for the boys on key areas that Senior Schools will assess in Year 6, including non-verbal and verbal reasoning and key skills in English and maths.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you prepare boys for the Senior School entrance exams?
The school works extremely closely to support each family individually throughout the process of sitting Senior School entrance exams. From Year 4 extra non-verbal and verbal reasoning activities and lessons are put in place to support the boys’ in these areas, whilst extra focus is also placed on key skills required in English and maths.
Further support is added during Year 6 when ISEB assessments, written exams and interviews take place. Although there will be elements of pressure through the process, we strongly believe that it can also be a fun and exciting time for the boys, where their interests, strengths and passions can come to the fore. It is a time to shine, and we walk alongside the boys and their families to support them in being at their best.
Interview practice is regular, with boys working with individual mentors through Oppidan Education as well as being put through their paces with THS staff. Whilst we aim to make the process as positive as possible, we will also leave no stone unturned in supporting their preparation.Which Senior Schools do Tower House boys attend in Year 9?

We are very proud that our Year 8 leavers earn places at a wide variety of different Senior Schools each year. As a result, we have a close relationship with a lot of different schools, and it is very important to us that we work with families to find the right school for each boy where they will thrive, be happy and make the most of every opportunity on offer.

Can you provide parents with information about specific Senior Schools?
Tower House has very close links and relationships with a wide range of different Senior Schools across the UK. Each year we provide our Year 5 parents with the latest information on deadlines and entrance requirements for a large variety of schools, and from Year 6 we liaise closely with the admissions teams at the Senior Schools our boys are applying to, regarding entrance and scholarship assessments.
When should we start visiting Open Events at Senior Schools?
We recommend that our families start visiting future Senior Schools when their sons are in Year 5, around the same time that individual discussions with each family begin with our Head, Neill Lunnon. We encourage parents to visit a range of different types of schools in order to get a good sense of what the options are, and what environments are most likely to suit their son.
Tower House is also proud to host a biennial Future School Fair, for parents from Year 4 – 6. With nearly 40 Senior Schools in attendance, including day, boarding, single-sex and coeducational, this is an exceptional opportunity for parents to speak to a variety of admissions staff as they start to explore potential future schools for their son.
