Open Mornings & Tours

Open Mornings & Tours

Our next Open Morning will take place at 9.15 am on Friday 27th September 2024. We would be delighted to welcome you to the school to meet staff, current parents and most importantly our wonderful Year 8 boys who will give you a tour of their school. You will also have a presentation from Neill Lunnon, the Head and have a chance to talk to him and the Deputy Head, should you have any questions.

We also offer tours of the school by the Head in small groups every Thursday morning if the Open Morning date is inconvenient for you. If neither of those work, we can organise an individual tour too.

In addition, every term we have a number of musical recitals, class performances and other events that you would be very welcome to attend.

For any enquiries regarding attending an Open Morning, organising a personal tour, or questions to do with entry to Tower House, please contact our Head of Admissions, Caroline Booth, who will respond as soon as possible:

Reception - Get Ready to Settle In

For our new Reception boys we know that starting school is an extremely important milestone in every child’s life and can be an anxious time for parents too. With this in mind, we have developed a detailed induction programme in the summer before the boys start, to allow parents to meet more members of staff, get to know other families and most importantly for the boys themselves to become familiar with Tower House and make some new friends. Reception staff also visit each pupil in their home as an opportunity to get to know the families and each boy in an informal and familiar setting. For more information on the induction process and the events organised, please contact the Head of Admissions, Caroline Booth.

Reception - Starting School

Reception - Starting School

Reception boys come in for half a day at Tower House for the first few days of term to help them settle in and this is built up over the first week until the boys remain at school for the whole day. Our staff develop a careful timetable in the first term to ensure that the boys settle in quickly, are happy and excited about coming into school.

Inducting our new THS families

Inducting our new THS families

The Tower House families are right at the heart of the Tower House community and we are proud that lifelong friendships are made at our school events and functions. The Friends of Tower House (FOTH) provides a wonderful network of supportive parents that are happy to answer questions and provide assistance to new families. The school introduces new families to FOTH as soon as is convenient to new parents.

Junior School - Finding Out More

Junior School - Finding Out More

For entry into Year 1 or 2 we invite the prospective pupil to join their future class for an hour or so to assess their suitability and ensure he would be happy and content in this educational environment. Boys wishing to enter Year 3 and above are invited into the school to undertake online assessments in English and Maths. During this time the prospective pupil is able to meet some of the staff, spend some time in the school (often with their future class) and take part in an informal interview with the Head or Deputy Head, during which they may get an opportunity to read aloud. The purpose of the informal interview is not to test what the boy has learned, but to learn more about him, what he enjoys and what he may bring to the life of the school. We aim to assess whether we feel he will be able to cope with the educational challenges at the school. It is very important to us that the boys flourish and thrive during their time at Tower House and have every chance of emerging confident, curious and well-rounded young men. As a result of this informal interview the school reserves the right to postpone or refuse admission to a boy if it be considered necessary.

We invite the boys into school for a morning in the summer term or the term preceding their start. This provides an excellent introduction for each new boy, in order to make some new friends and help dispel any nerves before they start with us.
